Range extension using WDS setup question

I'm trying to set up my new Netgear WPN802 as repeater to an existing wireless network (using Netgear WPN824). The manual only says to check Access Point as repeater.

Network works fine, access to internet via root router (WPN824) is ok.
Link between WPN824 and WPN802 established. Access from client to the repeater (WPN802) established.

There is no connection to internet from client and DNS is not working.

DHCP works - end client gets a correct IP (but no DNS). Pinging root router (WPN824) does not work.

Does anyone know if this setup is possible or if both router and repeater need to support WDS. I was hoping only the repeater needed that...

I could use enble the wireless capabilities on my Watchguard Firebox Edge instead of the WPN824, but I have no idea if the Firebox supports WDS either....

Hello,

Sorry, I tried to implement the same solution, But I've exactly the same problem.
I've already upgarded the WPN 802 firmware to 1.0.4.0, but no change.
I've submitted a case to netgear, at this time no answer

I'm having exactly the same problem - how were your issues resolved?

For anyone else who is struggling with this same problem, here is Netgear's explanation:

"The WPN802 cannot be configured in repeater or bridging mode along with the WPN824. Because the WPN824 doesnot have a feature called WDS(Wireless distribution system) which enables it to be configured in repeating or bridging mode. In order to achieve bridging or repeating, you need to have 2 WPN802 units. The first WPN802 is connected wired to the WPN824 and second WPN802 is configured in repeating or bridging mode along with the first WPN802."

You can of course link the 802 and 824 with a wire (turn off wireless on the 824) which will give the 824 enhanced MIMO capability. That works.

the new version of WPN824v3 does support WDS so you setup your router with the WPN802 AP as repeater function.

johnyvor, would you please provide the details on how to connect the WPN802v2 as a wireless repeater to WPN824v3? For the past two days I have spent at least 3 hours working with Netgear technicians and have finally been told that it is not possible to connect the WPN802v2 as a wireless repeater to the WPN824v3. One technician told me to buy the WPN824EXT and another told me to buy the WN802T. If you have successfully implemented the WPN802v2 as a wireless repeater to the WPN824v3, would you please provide the details for setting up this configuration. Your information is greatly appreciated.

All,

Looks like I have the same problem. I just purchased WPM802 based on the fact that the sales person indicated this device would work as a wireless repeater with the WPN824v2. I was not aware of all these issues. I do have one question, can the WPN824v2 be upgraded to WPN824v3 with a downloadable fireware package from netgear or are there other hardware changes needed? I could return the WPA802, if necessary.
