I am about to purchase this antenna. Does anyone have this antenna and
what have been their experience good of bad?

It's a small UHF only antenna of Yagi design. You didn't give any
description of your distsnce from transmitters, line of sight, etc., so it's
hard to guess. Go to antennaweb.org and put in your location to see what
color code you are in and whether any stations you want to receive are VHF.
Then check to see if that color is in the chart of the antenna you want to
use. With many digital stations going back to VHF after the transition, I'm
hesitant to recommend a UHF only antenna to anyone who doesn't understand
they'll probably have to replace the UHF with a VHF/UHF or add a separate
VHF antenna at some point.

I've been (1.5 years) using the RS 15-2160 antenna with good results.

I also use a mast mounted antenna amp, mostly to force a good
impedance match, and overcome downstream splitter losses.
With it, I'm pulling in UHF (H)DTV stations over 65 miles away.

It also does a fair job picking up upper(7-13) band VHF stations at
a range of 25 miles (In my case, it picks up (H)DTV broadcasts on
channels 8,9, and 13).

By the time a channel shift happens, you'll probably be in the
market for a new antenna anyway. (I.E. They won't last forever,
especially when they're exposed to the elements.)

Do you have a link with more info. on stations going back to VHF. I was
thinking about getting a large UHF ant. only.

Thanks

Excellent UHF antenna for the price. I use one in my attic and get strong
signals from digital UHF channels at 40 miles over flat terrain.

I think this is a changing situation..... Giving up

some analog VHF & UHF frequencies. Channel groups are

as such: Chan 2-4, gap, Chan 5-6, gap,
Chan 7-13, huge gap to UHF
Chans 14-59.....

My guess is we HDers might lose:
VHF Chans 2 thru 6 and UHF Chans 50 & up....

With the price of a UHF Channel Master 3021
at $25 and mounted under roof.....

A bulky Combo VHF-UHF antenna would be of

value IF permanent pole mount out doors was

'most' expensive or dangerous.....

Some day I may need a Combo VHF/UHF antenna should

some UHF HD stations switch back to VHF.....

It's large. I should have included the relavent part.

" Most station licensees currently have two channels, one on which they are
broadcasting analog signals, the other on which they are broadcasting
digital signals. After the transition from analog to digital broadcasting is
completed, stations will need only one digital channel and it must be within
the core channels, 2 through 51.

" The channel election process allows station licensees to choose which
channel they prefer, subject to Commission evaluation of interference
protection for all stations.

Those having VHF analog channels may go back to them. Most in the high VHF,
6-13, range will probably go for VHF since it's a good band and uses less
power for the same coverage as UHF. Low VHF is subject to interference and
may be spurned for that reason.

In a nutshell, broadcasters must return either their old analog or
new digital channel, and broadcast digital on the one they keep.
This has always been the case.

Viewers would prefer UHF, since it means smaller antennas.
Broadcasters have good reasons to keep their VHF channel and return
the UHF allocation -- UHF generally requires significantly more
transmitter input power to make up for transmitter ineffencies,
transmission line loss, and poorer propagation, which is not offset
by the fact that UHF antennas typically have higher gain.
Surprizingly, ac power cost to a broadcast transmitter is a
*significant* consideration

DTV may be mostly UHF today, but may move back to VHF in many cases.

Thanks for the information. I guess I will wait and see what stations in my
area go with VHFor UHF.

Danny:

It may be a 3 year wait or more for the UHF to VHF

possible HDTV channel switch. With OTA HDTV readily

available in many big and some small cities...

I'd think a $50 UHF only antenna & Walmart $198

set top box might be 'a cheap OTA HDTV' experiment

that would succeed based on http://www.antennaweb.org

and ZIP Code simple/preliminary study.....

If everybody waits three years for OTA HDTV... HDTV

might not be enjoyed by the masses at this stage....
