Distilled water & ammonia?

Hey gang, nice to be here. I just acquired a Zalman Reserator 1 Plus and see that there is a common problem with the pump going bad. One of the reviews on NewEgg says that you can use distilled water and a bit of ammonia to keep the water clear and save the pump. Have you heard of this? Is it a good idea? Also, I'm looking for a replacement pump to reduce downtime. What should I go with that will fit in the same space as the current pump and is AC? Or should I go with a different idea?

Haven't heard of using ammonia...

I recommend using:
