Making my own bad ass wireless antenna help?

I am looking to make an antenna for a wireless pci card, thing is, i want to make one in a satillite form, I am look to, if posible, to make one t hat will pick up signals from miles away, i dont mind how to much how large it is, cause i could just put it in my roof, so i am looking to get some information on what i can to get it to pick up that far out, i need antenna wire right? haveing a hard time finding the right stuff online, any help?
