I'm putting together a new system, and I was wondering if any of you has any advice on an adapter. It needs to be able to go about 50' through several walls and still get a good connection.

Get one with the antenna on coax. It allows you to get it out from behind the desk to a better location. Most all of those have removable antennas so a highgain or directional antenna can be used if needed.

bump...That seems to defeat the point of going wireless. I need a new wireless PC card but not sure which way to go either.
