After doing some research, it's quite simple to find a PSU powerfull enough to run 8800 GTX SLi. All u need is at least 40A on the +12v rail(s).
The problem is that all of those PSU's don't have the right connectors to support two 8800 GTX's.

An 8800 GTX requires two 6-pin power connectors, or conversely a sinlge 8-pin power connector.
Most PSU's have two 6-pin power connectors because no card before the 8800 GTX required two of those. That is how they were able to call a PSU with only two 6-pin power connectors "SLi certified".

So what what do i do if i need four 6-pin power connectors? Well the only solution is a PSU that supports nVidia Quad-SLi. If it wasnt for Quad-SLi, there would be no PSU's that support 8800 GTX SLi.
But the problem is that Quad-SLi PSU's have TOO MUCH power, and so their price is likewise.

So, my question to you is this - do u know of a PSU that does not have more than 750w but that has enough connectors for 8800 GTX SLi? Im sure that not everyone who has 8800 GTX SLi also has an 850w PSU.

Thnx!

Probably the most common PSU for a decent price that has 4 PCI-e connectors is:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817811003

Though I think most people just use the two PCI-e connectors and a total of 4 molex connectors with 2 adapters to connect to the other two slots on the cards.

Excellent find!

But this can't be the only four 6-pin power connector PSU with less than 700 watts, can it? I was hoping for a brand name PSU and im willing to pay more.

Tagan is a top of the line PSU company.

Here is a list of 4 PCI-e connector PSUs:

I can understand that. (about the molex connectors)

I agree Tagan isn't number 1, but top 4 isn't bad

You do know the Tagan I listed has 4 connectors right?

Yes. And I find that wierd because its the only PSU with 4 connectors that ISN'T on the nVidia aproved SLi list for 8800 GTX SLi.

Also, I cant find it where I live

if you only have 1 pci-x 6 pin then use the supplied 4 pin converter make sure you connect the 2 4 pin plugs to 2 (two) different lines of the psu

if you have a 3 rail psu - rail 2 & 3 is usually the pci-x - cross connected means that line gets power from both rail 2 and 3

the atx 12v or p4 4 pin mobo line is usually rail 1

while the 4 pin lines for peripherals for optical and floppy are crossed to 1 and 2 or 2 and 3. so you need to cross connect the supplied y-connector.

a friend of mine is running a oc 8800 gtx with antec neo 550w with no problems i recommend a silverstone stridder 600.

I was about to say but didn't for fear of appearing stupid, that: the GFX cards all come with adaptors to convert molex 4-pins to the right sort of adaptor. So even when the DX10 ATI cards come out, it won't really matter what connectors you have on your PSU.

That's why i just a got a GTS, so that when i go SLI i won't have to worry about getting 4 connectors.

By the way do you guys think a 650 W high quality Seasonic power supply would be enough for SLI GTS.
