i was jes wonderin how AMD n ATI name their products. i know fa sho how nVidia does it- its all really clean. they have like a 6, 7, 8 etc series and have 200-600-800 suffix (like 6200, 6600, 6800) and the higher the numba, the better. i heard ATI's all over the number line with their shyt. and wut bout AMD? does the higher the # they have mean more power? 3500 is better than the 3000? wuts their high-end cpu's/gpu's? thx.

More about : amd ati naming scheme

DIE LOSER

try speaking english and then post in the right forum, which would be graphics cards
February 22, 2007 10:24:38 PM

ati catalyst and driver is the year so catalyst 7.2 is 2007 2nd major release.

then ati went 5, 6,7.8.

with a 9 - 9550, 9600tx, 9800xt
then they went 8 - 850xt
then they added a 1 - x1800xt
then they went with 3, 6.9 - 1300,1600,1900 (this is not in the exact order)
then 50 x1950 pro, 1650xt

xtx = best xt = next pro=next

now 2 for the newest unreleased - 2900xtx new big boy r600 - super cooker, super late, super bugged

amd named of pentiums

so a 3000+ is better the a p4 3.0 but then they lost it

so a 4200+ WAS A 4.2ghz p4

then amti lost it so now you have a x2 4200+ which is 2 4.2ghz p4's and 6000+ which i guess is 2 6ghz p4 - i doubt it scales correctly

then fx -50 's are singles fx-60s are dual core and 70's are also dula core but 4x4 only new socket you need 2 and special mobo sold as a set of 3 - 2 chips and a mobo

-----
---- intel -- i am guessing from memory on alot of this so please correct me
net burst - bursted after 4.25ghz or 3.8ghz stock or the 570j the last - no 10ghz scaling due to electron leakage

p4= 3ghz = 3.0
then 500 series = prescott 775 super cooker
then 600 seres = supposed to run cooler with thermal throttling
661 = the 1 had smaller die and new features

800= crapy dual core = 2 to die
900 single die dual core

core 2 new architecture shorter path (like 20 steps?) from ~33 steps of net burst - extra calculation per cycle

quad core = combines the 800 series 2 cores packed in to one package plus the C2D

-------i am bored and waiting for emails-----

well nvidia
5000 junky

6000 seies - 6600 6800 then you add GS GT ultra ( big improvement)
7000 7300 7600 7800 new core GTX = killer
then remake it the 7900, smaller die - i think????
7950 GX2 2= dual gpu
8000 gts gtx s= pretty good stuff x=good stuff

after gpu's been out a while they detune it (make it woarse) usually call it a GS or xt

I figured a one liner would be all I needed to gage your age level. I dont think mommy would like that tone of voice out her wittle baby.

I love it, a kid with heatburst has the gals to attempt to rag on my opteron(s). :!: I dont know what to laugh at first, the heatburst or the HTML on your website. :p

heatburst FTW.  Carefull this summer, I would hate to see your house on the news because your PC spontaneously burst into flames and burned down your neighborhood.

You should put a disclaimer on that site of yours...
"Sorry there is no checkout system for my really whack systems. My HTML skills are too poor to build a checkout cart and mommy wont spring for the ones I found on the internet."

Dont worry youll get the rest of your response in PM.

I would be angry at anyone even suggesting it. That's why I've just logged your DNS and tracking you now!

Look, there is more than enough cruelty towards innocents who can't protect themselves in this world to have people naming themselves so despicably in a public forum.

MODS! I would strongly suggest that this thread be locked, deleted, burned and its ashes scattered to the winds. Thank you.

sandman sent me this(should I worry?) :

figured a one liner would be all I needed to gage your age level.

I love it, a guy whos got to overclock his P4 to ludicrous speed just to stay in the game.

heatburst FTW.

I hear that if you overclock that P4 of yours any more the northeast is headed for another summer of rolling blackouts! I personally wouldnt bother, your house on the news because your computer spontaneously burst into flames and burned down your neighborhood just isnt worth it.

Dont worry about that email reply, I dont think mommy has it in the budget to spring for little johnnys next computer. Youll just have to go out and get a job of your own this time.

Thats a great website btw. I bet it hurt that tiny wittle brain of yours to learn all that really difficult HTML.

Dont worry about your ban. Ill stop by the abuse department on the way in to my ISP network engineering job. Im sure your website appearing on every blacklist on the face of the planet will keep you busy for a month or so. Or perhaps I should accidentally redirect one of those Avici TSR OC-48 blades to your house. You know us rednecks and numbers longer than ten get confused. Im sure you can understand if it takes a few days to get that traffic back to normal.

The site does not intergrade with html - the site was built by a plumber!

Visual

X1-3-00
X2-2-00
X1-9-00

X1-9-50
X1-6-50

See?

To Shoder:

X1 = Generation
9 = Model
00 = Revision
Xtx = classification

x1950xtx is read: Model 9 rev 50 (five o) gen x1, class xtx.

Exactly.

I'd just go with nVidia. 8)
February 23, 2007 8:38:16 PM

NVidia is the same way

7900GTX

Generation 7 Model 9 Class GTX

There is no revision in this example.
February 23, 2007 10:12:37 PM

Although I understand the difficulties people have with the OP, I do think Nvidia has an easier to understand naming method. CPUs from both companies are confusing, but in the graphics world, Nvidia definitely makes things easier on the average joe than ATI does "why is the 1900 better than the 9600?!!!"
February 23, 2007 10:15:14 PM

WHY? BECAUSE

its a 9 vs x1

Thats why.
February 23, 2007 10:19:14 PM

I think the reason is becouse ATI started at such high numbers, I think, to make it seem like they are better. 9800 must be better then 4600 right?it was ofcoarse better, but it forced ATI to follow that scheme, and they are stuck?what do they do 9 generations from now, the dx13 capable 2900xtx2? ahh well, nvidia wont be much better at that point...the geforce 17800 gtx!i want 8 in oct sli!woot!
February 23, 2007 10:19:39 PM

I think ATI purposely implements extra unnecessary letters and digits into their "ranking" system to confuse everyone.

Is it too much to ask to make a simple ranking? Apparently.
February 23, 2007 10:28:10 PM

Its marketing

ATI 10,200 ATI 10,900 ATI 10,950xtx

That sounds stupid.

And when Nvidia gets to that point (the 9800..) they will change their scheme too.
February 23, 2007 10:31:01 PM

I agree with ATI changeing, and prolly in the next generation or 2,but im not so sure of Nvidia, there names are constant, and make sence.,the geforcwe 8800 gtx is the geforce series 8,800 set,gtx version, and so on,the radeons are...well i have no frigging idea how they came up with that, cause the 9800 is not generation 9 of the ati gpu
February 23, 2007 10:37:33 PM

I told you their naming scheme dude.

RADEON was not their first card. Remember RAGE3D? They had various designs and cards out before RADEON, plus, when they started producing that model of card, Nvidia had been using thier GeForce name for some time. So instead of starting at the bottom, they started at 7.

VGA Wonder
Mach8
Mach32
Mach64
Rage Series (3 or 4 cards)
Radeon series.

Get it?
February 23, 2007 10:50:02 PM

I know the series they produce, and produced in the past, but if you follow, them, radeon 9000 series, wasnt atis 9th series of cards.Nvidia has a clear trail that makes sence, ati doesnt, and havent sence they began produceing the radeons, which was what i was saying.
February 25, 2007 2:40:43 AM

There's no reason Nvidia have to change their scheme. I think the Nvidia 10000 sounds fine.
February 25, 2007 3:32:48 AM

10k maybe, but I really doubt it since it sounds gay (and in a marketing stance, it would not be popular [referencing other companies who dont name in the 10,000]).

We will wait and see.
February 25, 2007 4:16:44 AM

The fact is the amd and ati naming systems is this:

AM = amd (keeps intel honest) - gogo)
TI= ati (was my favorite gpu company until amd stole the company)

AM +TI = amti (pronounced amaddy)

if you take the new 6000+ cpu and the x2800 gpu = you have = AMTI x8800+

AMTI plans on releasing a cpu and gpu mobo dual socket mobo

so now you have it the new AMTI X8800+

IFB (amti is always #2)
February 25, 2007 5:06:36 AM

ummmm, did you ever look at this?

7 series, 8 series, 9 series...

what next 10? no cos as Comptia_Rep said it sound stupid... so what is the roman numeral for 10? omg it can't be... it is... X. looks better 2

bLAKE

ps, didn't really read all of the posts so sum1 might have said this already.....
February 25, 2007 5:18:35 AM

This is why the name AMTI is retarded:

http://amti.net/

Stop referring to AMD that way, it just sounds ridiculous, whether or not you think they suxor.

And what the heck are you talking about? Are you just trying to annoy people here?
February 25, 2007 5:41:18 AM

lol

NViDIA 8800 | 9800 | X800 | X900 |

UH OH I Dont think so.

NVidia will have to change their product name, or amend a new modifier, such as NVidia Geforce Revolution or something, because there is no way they will use the 10,000 series name, nor the X1... (im sure ATI has that name typewritten anyway)
February 25, 2007 5:44:55 AM

This thread sucks.

The higher the number the better?

Anyone want to give me a 6800 Ultra for a 7300 LE?

Gimme a break.

And the AMD XP 3000+ WERE NOT better than a P4 3GHz. Maybe first gen 3GHz running single channel RAM on a SiS chipset, but NOT one paired with i850e / 1066 RD RAM or an HT model with i865/875 running Dual Channel DDR.

The best chipset for AMD XP was the nForce 2, which could barely reach 2.5GBps in memory bandwidth vs. 3.2 on RD 1066 or 5.3 on DC DDR 400 on P4.

Sure Netburst is lame, but thats compared to Athlon 64 / Core 2. Didn't suck back in AMD XP days.

Give me a HT P4 3.2 with an i865 running DC DDR 400 and Hyperpath over an nForce 2 with a 3200+ anyday. I have both setups. The AMD is sitting in my closet collecting dust, the P4 is still playing WoW for my ex.
February 25, 2007 9:14:47 AM

was refering to what ATI did......
February 25, 2007 9:56:07 AM

eh they should have just gone 1,2,3,4,5 ...and so on.

not that im complaining, cause i couldn't care less what it's called as long as it performs well, but it would make life easier for some.
February 25, 2007 4:09:36 PM

Same reason why we dont have an xbox 2, ATI did not want a Radeon 1 competing with the Ge force 4

stop? wow is that an order? yes sir i think there are a few intel/nvidia people here like real gamers running c2d/680i/8800 that might think its funny too.

come on amti can not get the r600 to work (ok its out in march) and they release the super cooker 60000+ and the press does not slam it - somebody had make the people aware!

if you google amd 6000+ this is the only title that slams the power hungrey slow "me too" chip. The next 50 titles say amd relases 6000+ =yada yada -- amd bias

"Newest AMD 6000+ processor still slower than Intel"

http://www.itwire.com.au/content/view/9805/532/

"Cheaper than Intel’s fastest E6700, it might be AMD’s fastest yet at 3Ghz, but it consumes more power, is slower on just about every benchmark and is based on older 90nm technology – as Intel ramps up its 45nm capability. Will anyone buy them?"

amd + ati = adat sounds dumb
amd +ati = amdi thats not fair ati gets only one letter
adti that sucks too

ok i call it amaddy

IFB amaddy is always #2

Of course they can't, they're a military contractor, doofus.

And I never said they were better than anyone else.

And the "real"-ness of a gamer is not judged by the speed of their system, but by their skills and dedication to the game(s) they play.

Also, what makes you think you are any better informed than the press about the 6000+, much less the 60000+ (dumba$$)? I doubt you've ever owned/touched/seen/worked with one of those. While it wasn't ever expected to be any faster than the C2Q or C2D high end stuff, it is significantly faster than anything else in AMD's line, along with a lot of stuff in the lower C2D line, and that's why it was released. I also think they may have released it to keep themselves in the media. Keeping presence and visibility is crucial here, especially for joe shmoe consumer who has heard "intel inside" for over a decade, and now sees AMD on the side of the computers in Best Buy and such.

Combining names comes from a merger. AMD BOUGHT ATI, therefore making a name combination pointless and stupid. Call them what you like, but you're gonna look like a misinformed dimwit.
February 25, 2007 8:06:36 PM

wow did this thread change? i googled and there is more then 1 amti
amti.com amti.net and some more - i checked the copy right it did not come up claimed.

amti.biz is availble

http://www.networksolutions.com/purchase-it/view-your-o...

ya your right i never did touch or own a 6000+ but i did buy 5 fx-60's in last 2 weeks - so i know a little about amaddy chips. hey, I got make up for years of abuse as an intel builder(just as many amd systems) !

I am building a 4x4 for a customer - its pretty nice - its loud and needs a huge psu but its fast. Reminds of me of P4 days with huge coolers!

I really do not think amd will be selling too many of the 6000's except to existing mobo owners looking for the right upgrade at the right price.

single core athlons were really over rated by the press - poor multitasking - amd's dual cores are nice. Yes this is the same old stuff I been spitting out for 2 weeks - soon i back off to asus forums were the peeps are friendly, and good enthusists.
