Hi i have xp pro installed over a win98 system. I would like to completely
remove win98 beacuse I have had consistent problems with some apps, and
re-install xp pro. (ie clean install). the xp pro is an upgrade but I have
both the win 98 se license and the xp pro license with me.

When I start the system from the xp pro cd i do not get the option to remove
win98 or to format the hdd. Could someone please give me some ideas about
how to go about this - do i need to create a startup disk or something
first?

any urgent advice appreciated.

Hi,

Boot the WinXP CD, and enter setup. Agree to the license (hit F8), then at
the point where you select the installation point, instead delete the
existing system partition(s). Create a new one from the free space, then
format and proceed with the installation. As you have an upgrade disk, you
may need your Win98 media if the existing installation doesn't qualify setup
before you remove it (I believe it will use the existing setup to qualify
the installation before you remove the Win98 partition though).
