Intel's goodness is taking all the crowns, and I'm sure this has been said but isn't c2d intel building a dualcore from the ground up instead of slapping two singles together? i know the am2's got more than stitched together but they didn't change anything...so amd's approach makes more sense to build a quad from scratch...kuma is supposed to be a k10 cut in half right?

I don't know what the point it, I think its more of just the sheer awe of things that are and are to come...

To answer the question posed in your title... No; the Core Duo was Intel's first "2nd gen" dual core.
