Hi i have decided to get a 8800GTS 320 mb graphics card ,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130082

can you tell me if this is a good deal and if that particular EVGA card is good or something better is around.

The reason i have chosen this card is because i dont game above 1600x1200 and mostly at 1024x1280 . Currently i own a x1800 gto, which is beginning to show its age .

The game i want to play is Supreme commander. :)

This year onwards i am going to be upgrading to a 300 dollar card every year around march so as to keep up with the latest tech .

I am sick of games slowing down over a 2 year period . Plus i can sell the card and put in the rest of the money for whatever i can find in that price range :)

So do you think this is a good deal (i am not waiting for Ati i want to game now ) and is that particular card Evga a good buy

thank you for your replies :D

Sup Com is a game limited by CPU more so than graphics. I have it running on my laptop, Rock XtremeSL, which only has a 2.4Ghz Turion but 2 x NVid 7900GTX cards. The slow down i get is not due to the graphics cards being out paced but the CPU struggling. It makes no difference for me using the native 1680x1050 resolution of the screen or dropping that to 1280x1024. Even with all the graphical niceties turned on.

This is more apparent in skirmishes rather than multiplayer, due to the heavy overheads of the CPU players. LAN gaming ran very well 2 vs 2.

Also 2Gb of RAM is rescommended, running in the background just now SupCom's taking up around 500Mb of RAM!!

On a final note, the only regret you will have playing Supreme Commander is the amount of your life it will consume. I've had to set aside a good month of my social life!!

This one actually has better stats for the same price (but no rebate) 500mhz vs 576mhz core and 1600mhz vs 1700mhz mem

EVGA is a very good company from my experiences with them and you should definitely not be dissapointed by the performance of the card.

I agree. A 15% core factory overclock is worth the few extra dollars.

It's a great card, your excitement isn't unwarranted. :)

Yes you can, and to a higher extent than the Factory Overlock settings

it can be a little hit and miss though, I have a 640MB 8800GTS which'll only go to 600mhz, where as my mates exact same make/model card lives at 620mhz no problems

The extra frame per second (when you're already getting 140+) is definately worth it.

The need for more memory is going to come when dx10 games come out. That's when games are really going to be stressing the card. Then the extra 20+ fps (help from the extra memory) is going to help when you are struggling to get 60fps.

Agreed. having to calculate all the physics for the missle and weapon fired kills a CPU. Im going to upgrade to C2D because of this. You should think about upgrading CPU if Supreme Commander is what you want to play.
