I have just started experimenting with OC'ing. I have my old comp that is

AMD 64 3400 Clawhammer
FIC mobo Skt 754
6800 GT AGP
1.5 GB DDR 3200 RAM
400 W Powmax PSU

I just bought an Ultra X-Wind CPU cooler

I have oc'd to 2.4 GHZ without doing anything but changing the FSB to 219X11 - I haven't adjusted memory, vcore, etc

Speed Fan shows temp @ 43 - 46 celcius but the BIOS says around 28-30

I haven't changed vcore but have read if I raise it, it would lower temps?

I don't want to fcuk anything up, so advice is appreciated!!

I ran Prime 95 and it has an error. How do I tell what to do next? What kind of error is it? Etc.....

if you raise the vcore, your temperatures will go up. stay below 1.5v (and 71C degrees on the cpu) if you can, you can risk frying your cpu if you go much above that. i would trust the bios temperature readings, not speedfans. the bios temperature readings are usually correct.

since you were able to reach 2.4 without 'much' problem... i would first try just relaxing your settings; reducing htt multiplier to 3x, and reducing memory speed to 166 (from a stock 200)

My v-core is set at 1.44v and I can raise it in .25 increments

How do I lower my multiplier of the CPU? When I look at it in BIOS, it is not selectable. It only gives me the option for changing the FSB

I'll try the memory speed though

the cpu multiplier you probably cant change, unless the mntherboard allows it, but the hypertransport multiplier you can... by default its set to 5x (though for s754 im not sure)... you want you reduce the hypertransport (htt) multiplier down to as low as 3x

I just found out something.

My chipset K8T800 VIA is limited to FSB 225 -

After that the AGP & PCI go all out of whack and I cannot lock them at stock frequencies. Thus, I am limited to 2420 GHZ @ 1.45v and 3X HTT -

Not bad though for a so-so mobo??

I think I'm good here, and I will take my newfound OC'ing knowledge and put it toward my new 5200+ ( I already have it to 2.7 Ghz with ease!!! )

I have a simular setup with an Asus board with K8T800 chipset running with a socket 754 Athlon 64 3000+ (New Castle) and I have OCed to 2.56Ghz with a FSB at 256Mhz.

I had to punch my voltage up to 1.7v to get the silly thing from blue screening, but my temps are stable and solid at 41C idle and 54C after 12 hours of prime95.

I had to slide the HT setting to 600 instead of 800 (or a multiplier of 3x instead of 4x) and I have my RAM currently running at a ratio of 5:3 so I keep my mem at about 214Mhz.

Hope this helps...
