you should probably change the poll question (or remove the poll entirely, because it leaves the thread open to mostly negative feedback and responses), the information youre giving in your post (and the question your asking in your post), isnt really relevant to the question in the poll above...

My x2 3800+ reaches 2.4 without problem; 2.5 could be reached, but I get instabilities then (must be my RAM).
The poll is irrelevant, remove it.

My socket 939 Athlon X2 3800+ Toledo reached a top frequency of 3.1 GHz. With stock cooling i might add, even though that was overkill (I now have an Arctic Cooler 64 Pro). But at that frequency I had to increase the RAM timings way too much and the actual PC performance was lower than @ 2.8 GHz. So, for me, the best overclock is at 2.8 GHz, with 2.5-3-2-5 and 1.375 V. You should get a DFI board if you want to overclock. But, anyway, you could tell me what RAM settings you have in BIOS (RAM counts the most) and specify your RAM, and maybe I`ll give you a hint or two.

you may have a poor x2 3800+ then; overheating at 2200 is pretty ridiculous.

That or you've twisted the heatsink when mounting it; and damaged the thermal pad - leading to bad heat conduction.

If on top of that you have bad case cooling, then yes, it can overheat.
