hello again! I've seen a good DOS to PDA emulator recently, so I was
wondering that maybe there's a win95 emulator for PDA available as well?
well, I understand the speed limitations etc., but there's a proggy that I
badly need to have on my ipaq and unfortunately the developers don't plan a
PDA release...

Oleg,

You are out of luck unless the developer comes out with version for P/PC.

I did hear of some type of Win95 emulator being developed for PDA, but I
think this is all very experimental and simply proof of concept. So the
answer is no.

Wasn't windows 98 a DOS application anyway? ;)

There's no useable solution I'm afraid, although it is theoretically
possible. I successfully booted Win98 on my ipaq using a port of the Bochs
emulator - it took over two hours just to boot to the desktop, and the
keyboard didn't work once it got there.

Marc,

At the core you are correct.

However, Win95/98 required at least a 286 architecture to function.
PocketDOS, which could be loaded onto a PDA but the problem is PocketDOS
runs at 186, thus only Windows 1.x and 2.x will work on it.

I'm pretty sure Win 95 requires at least an Intel 386 processor, and
the DOS emulators for Pocket PC emulate only 286 CPUs.

No XP is just NT with nicer icons. A bit like Windows Mobile 5

There are more changes than that simplistic view.
They are both built on NT technology. NT is the oldest and doesn't support
plug-n-play or USB and is not as friendly for gaming and some advanced
multi-media stuff. And XP has flashing buttons.

Sorry I forgot the ";-)" - i am well aware of the different kernels used
in 9x/ME and NT + 2000.
The difference between windows 2000 and xp I'm sure you'll agree is very
marginal, with XP having mostly more bundelled applications and a
cleaner interface than 2000, and of course the home edition has some
lines of code commented out (file system level encryption, and full
editing of file permissions for example)

The marketing, man, don't forget the marketing. Easily as well designed and
laid out as the actual changes itself, and should be considered an integral
part of any operating system made for the masses by any company from 2001
forward.
