HDTV Options

I just found this group, so please bear with me if this been addressed
before countless times.

I'm going to be moving at the end of the year, but in the meantime
I've got HDTV through Comcast. I LOVE IT, but the HDTV choices
available through Comcast in San Francisco are so very limited.

I figured Voom would be a good option at my next apartment, except
even cursory reading of this group as well as newspaper business
section makes it looks like Voom is doomed.

Does anybody have any insights about whether or not Comcast is going
to be offering more HDTV choice by the end of the year? Or will the
other satellite companies pick up the slack when Voom meets its end?

Another scenario that might make sense is for Voom to be sold to
DirectTV/Dish. I don't know if they could come up with a single eqpt
package, but it would make sense from a biz standpoint. If they get
Voom at the right price, they could use it to expand their HD
offerings. After all, even if Voom goes, the sat is still there and
will be used for something.

Another strike against VOOM for you is that you live in an apt. I don't know
how it is where you live but many places won't allow you to use a satelite
dishe in an apt. Where I live I believe we have a city ordinance or
something because every apt I ever rented says no satelite dishes in the
rules. Even in other states I've lived in, I have yet to see a decent
complex that will allow it.

I also look for DirectTV to buy VOOM sooner or later. In one step they could
really increase their HD content. VOOM seemed like a great idea, but a bit
early. On the other hand who knows, it could survive and maybe prosper
someday.

Anyhow, Comcast will increase it's cable lineup. I heard they're supposed to
add cinemaxHD, STARZ and a few others coming soon. Didn't see a date though.

you can have a dish and no one can say nothing per FCC and Fedral law As
long as the dish is not in a public area and in you living space. like
you balcony or padio. My had a law saying apts could not have them and I
call direct-tv and they sent the city a nice note explaning the law for
there legal dept.

That was much welcomed info. Thanks!

(Sigh) Oh yes... the premium networks. I suppose I should have
expected that the high-end networks would be added before TNT, Fox, FX
or any of the other HD-equivalents to "basic cable".
