Okay so sound cards now days aren't exactly costly, some are...most aren't.

The question is, do i need one considering I only ever use a headset. I dont have a 5.1 or 7.1 setup.

Just plain old logitech gamer stereo headset which is mainly used for gaming.

If the answer is yes, then which ones would you suggest in the under £40 range??

An independent sound card can give you more performance (let alone sound better....Audgy 2 zs)and give you better sound quality.Google it for more info...gl :D

Grab an XFi music for about $89 CDN or about 40 pounds.
It has the coolest 3d sound for headphones...and will not hinder your CPU's performance.

believe me if you need to spend an extra "quid' or two, do it...you will not regret it.

Cheers.

Buy an X-fi... then some Sennheiser HD-555 headphones. Nice stuff...
