e4300 duo -- 64-bit OS won't load???

I have bought a system that I thought would let me piddle in the 64-bit sandbox world, an e4300 1.8 gHz with an ASUS P5B Deluxe MB and put on a fairly large Zolman fan just in case I wanted to OC.

BUT, to my (bad) surprise, none of the 64-bit OSes I have tried seem to think I *have* a 64-bit system??? Did I miscalculate? I thought both MB and CPU support the 64-bit EMT extensions.

Really odd stuff these MSDN disks that I am attempting to install the OS from ... turns out that if I make a bootable 2k3 x64 disk from the ISO DVD all is well (assuming all the 64-bit drivers are downloaded from Intel rather than ASUS, that took a bit of research/headscratching); I am not sure just what "pre-scan" is being done, but looks like something happens that only shows the conservative choices for OS installation; I would assume that the 32-bit OSes will install, but that isn't why I bought this board/CPU combo.

Thanks for all the comebacks!
