Hi: I just was wondering if i can run 2 8800 gts in sli with an antec neo he 550 watt ps. 18 amps on each 12 v rail. (3 12 volt rails) i am running an athlon x2 4200 dual core with 2 gigs of ram ddr2 533mghz and only 1 harddrive and 1 optical disk drive.

I think 8800GTS in SLI requires something like 38 amps to the 12 volt rails and the Antec NeoHE 550 has 42 amps to the 12 volt rails. It would be close, but it can handle it just fine, I'm sure.

The 12 volt amp requirements for Nvidia cards in SLI always factor in generic system components being combined. Nvidia's good like that with their system labels.

The Neo HE is based off the Seasonic S12 so I'm sure it's built to last and if the Corsair HX520 which has 2 less amps can handle an 8800GTS, I'm sure yours can.

you're power supply may be enough, but i think there's a better option.

i'd recommend just getting a gtx. for the money of 2 gts cards, you can easily have the gtx. your power supply should be able to handle the gtx fine, and you'll have the option to upgrade to another card at later date (and not be stuck with 2 cards already).

just my .02 cents.

If a PSU has two rails that sport 20A each they do NOT add up to 40A. You have to take the total wattage on the +12V rail and divide that by 12. for example a 3 rail PSU with 18A on each rail. the total wattage listed below those rails on the PSUs label (not always the case but is helpful when it is listed) is 480 that means the system can provide a maximum amount of 40A.

Here is a great Example:Click here

the PSU has two 22A rails but its max output is 32A (384/12 = 32)
