After a while it will go to sleep. You can adjust power options to suit your taste. In windows 7 click Start, type "power options" and check the one you like.

In windows 8, drag open the charm bar on the right side of the screen and select search. Type power options into the box and click on settings. Now click on power options on the left side, the control panel will open. Click "choose when to turn off the display" and adjust the setting to how you want it.
