I'm trying to build a mainstream system on a budget. I don't expect to run heavy 3D graphics, but I want something which is fairly fast to support software development. I'm also looking to store a large number of digital pictures with which I'll be doing some limited editing.

I'm trying to choose between the Intel DG965WH and the Asus PB5 VM. Anyone have experience with these? Any input on which is the better board?

Thanks.

Both should be solid boards, but:
The Intel is a full ATX board, uses the better ICH8R southbridge and has better audio. I would buy the Intel without hesitation.
Neither are for overclocking.
Use the sole IDE controller for your boot optical disk.
All hard drives should be SATA.
Make sure you buy 1.8volt DDR2-533 value ram in pairs and all will be well.
