Hi All,
Out of the blue my DVD/CDRW went bonkers. Any type of disk is not recognized by XP, I get a message that 'Windows can't read from the disk. Disk could be corrupted or using a formatt not compatible with windows.' I tried all types of disks with the same result. It seemed to be working fine, even Hardware Manager said so and it even would eject the disk. Soo, I replaced the unit with a different one. Everything stayed the same. The problems seemed to occur after burning a large DVD with Roxio. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Go into device manager and expand the tree to your optical drives. Check to see if there is an alert (such as an exclamation icon). Check properties to determine if the device is working properly, and check to see if the drive is configured for DMA (UDMA). If you find a problem, I would suggest that you uninstall the device drivers. Reboot your system and Windows will automatically reinstall the drivers for you. You may be suffering from corrupt drivers, or possibly something occurred to cause your optical drives to default into PIO mode.
