My neighbor has cable internet and a linksys router. He said I could get a wireless card and connect to his router. I bought a Linksys WMP54G. I can connect to his router and tranmit packets, my problem is I recieve very few packets and my internet browser times out. In 214 sent packets I only received 11 packets back. I have good signal strength. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can u actually go online or does it just say u r connected?

Try doing a continuous ping to the router with

ping <router's ip> -t

and see if u r getting continuous replies or if u r losing any packets...

if this step is successful try doing a continuous ping to any website..

Singal strength is only part of the equation. Much more important is SNR, or in most SOHO utilities it's called something like link quality. If your SNR sucks, then you might try backing the card manually down to 5.5 Mb, or even 1 or 2 Mb. Quality should improve, thus retries and the like will improve with it.
