When gaming I noticed a very loud bzz sound coming from the graphics card depending on the FPS in the game (higher fps = louder bzz).
I opened up ATI Catalyst and noticed my temperatures were at 75-80C on load and 50C on idle...
I also noticed that for some reason it was underclocked? the memory speed was at 594 instead of 900 and the GPU was at 500 instead of 621.
I tried running the 'automated clock configuration utility' but that just increased my temperatures to 87C on IDLE!!!

Heres a screenshot of the catalyst overdrive screen on idle:

I've been reading around and apparently the overheating is normal for a stock heatsink, so I've ordered a Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer Accelero X2.
My question is, why are the speeds underclocked? they are clearly set to much higher but they refuse to go that high...

When you launch a 3D game, the card clocks to 621/900.
Otherwise the card clocks @500/594. You can set whatever clock and then either set for one time only or every time you reboot.

That's a high temp. I have the X2 on my X1950 XT and it rarely goes past 70c.

My mistake, you must've ran the clock configuration utillity. That sets how high your core and memory clocks goes deemed stable by the utillity.
The highest mine went to was 683/909 I think. I only go high as 655/909.
Doesn't run too hot at that clock. Well goodluck with your card! :D
