Hello,

I know you folks get this question all the time but after weeks of reading and more reading this is what I have come up with and I beg of your opnion. I have been away from the hardware scene for a few years not and lots has changed.

What do you guys/gals think about setup for photo/video editing? I'll be using Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Premiere Elements 3.0. I have between $2000 & $2500 to spend. Where I save will go towards software etc.

I have also considered a Dell XPS 410 wondering if it would be easier to deal with.

Thanks in advance.

Michael

I would rather spend the money on rice paper and rotten fish then buy a Dell XPS.

The build looks pretty good, i would get the P5W Deluxe, the P5B Premium is a waste of money IMO, you can get almost the exact same thing for about $180 in a P5B Deluxe (great board btw). Instead of the 7950gt i would get an 8800gts 320mb, its only like $40 more, and the performance difference is HUGE. Along with the 8800gts your going to need a better psu, id get this one, awesome quality. I would get this ram instead of those corsair sticks, tigher timings, and lower CAS, for just $5 more.

look here for video card choices. That 7950 is not the best at that price. With a 1950xt you also get AVIVO which b/c you are using premier you will get better use out of it. (and better game/3-d performance to boot)

If you are totally against an ATI card then scour around and find an Nv card that has VIVO on it. (honestly don't know what Nv cards have it)

Most cards have the output fine, but the input will be more valuable to video editing and such. When you have a sweet chunk of analog video (think VHS tapes converted from old super8 film and the like) that you want to import to a movie you are making you will be thankfull for that ability.

Like the suggestion on ram above, and the rest of the build seems ok.

Sweeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!

This is what I like about this forum. I think this is my second or third post but I've been a reader for ever. Great Responses.

I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to computer hardware technology of today but I'm not going with an OEM computer. I toyed with it thinking, no hassles, but in the end you can't beat you own creation with help from others of course.

I guess one of the main things that's making this one harder than the 1st one I build is timing (VISTA). I'd feel better if Vista had been out for a year or so. Others still recommend Vista over XP since I'm buying the OS.

I'm going to take a look at all suggestions and probably will revamp my list especially since it's my first draft.

Thanks a million.

Mike
