Just upgraded to the DCT6208 recordable HD terminal from my non-recordable
Motorola. Although it functions well, I find the constant whirring from the
hard-drive intrusive. My house/ viewing room is very quiet so I'm sure this
is not an issue for everyone. However, I often listen to music or view TV at
a low volume level and I can always hear the terminal. It is no quieter even
when turned off. I'm seriously thinking of returning to my previous model.
Anyone else have the same issue with this unit?

I never heard of the term "terminal". Interesting anyway...

The noise bothers you more than the convenience of recording HDTV?
I think it's a great unit. Our 6208 is relatively quiet.

Call them and ask for a replacement, there may be something wrong with it.

Have the same problem. Been thinking about swapping out the unit for
another one.

Based on previous posts I've seen in this newsgroup, that's just the
noise the box makes. Part of the problem is the box doesn't really
turn off when you "turn it off". Ie. the hard drive is still spinning
when the box is supposedly "off".

I sometimes turn the box off via my AC power strip, mainly to save
power. But when I turn it back on, it then takes an hour or two for the
guide information to load up.
