Would i see any real gains in switching from my AMD 5200 to amd 6000 in games and vista and programming capabilities?
I have dual 8800 GTX vid cards so as u can imagine i can run everything on maxxed settings. So would i actually get any significant gain or is it a pointless upgrade with AM3 so close?

Pointless, no noticeable gain Maybe a few FPS

Agreed, 400Mhz isn't going to make a huge performance difference and definitely isn't worth $500+. You could overclock, Jump to C2D or wait for barcelona (which could be awhile).

OBLIGATORY "SWITCH TO C2D" POST IS NOW OUT OF THE WAY.

As someone said, no. Just OC it a little to get more performance. If you have DDR2-800, OC it until your RAM is running at the full 800Mhz or a little higher. The stock cooler wouldn't even bat an eye at that. Don't upgrade until K10.
