I'm not an idiot, but mayn, this is weird...

gunna mess wit some bios settings, but as of now everythings at default -

question being: why is this AMD 3800 runing at 575 Mhz? and why is the RAM at DDR533 instead of DDR800?

this is the system:

AMD X2 3800 (65W, retail) socket AM2
OCZ Revision 2 Platinum DDR800 - 2 GB
ABIT NF-M2S Socket AM2
EVGA 256-P2-N550 -T2 GeForce 7600GT
Western Digital Caviar RE WD1600YS
430 PSU

its runnin a fresh copy of windows XP home

this is the billionth system I've built - not exactly puzzled, but wonderin whut might cause this - if the bios is in default settings. I've seen RAM clock mistakes but not CPU clock mistakes.

any suggestions?[/code]

First... the obvious:

Disable cool and quiet, and then check CPUID.

Second...

if that didn't work then there's probably an incorrect timing setting in the BIOS. make sure the memory is set to DDR800 (or 400mhz).

no power saving or quiet functions are on...

manually set the ram to DDR800

but the CPU is still running at 575 Mhz, even if I the multiplier manually to 10X and make it 2000 Mhz...

with failsafe and default settings, the CPU still runs at 575 mhz...

Are you sure it's not AMD K6-III :?: Just joking.
Urgh, you have replied

Surely your board have manual FSB settings? Does your board have latest bios? Bios reset didn'tchange anything?

speakin of K6, I miss the days where it was as simple as flip a series of lil switches and everythin was pretty - I have two K6-IIs 500 Mhz sittin around, should jus use them instead.... :x

nah its coo

everythins connected right mayn... and the bios reports CPU temp fairly below the average, so thas at okay levels...

this is whut I mean - think it could be a motherboard defect? ionno... this system for someone else, so wanted to finish it today... but its given me a hassle the whole day

My guess would be keep tinkering in bios until you get it otherwise you said you flashed it and it's newest.
Try defaults/turbo settings.
I doubt it's cpu.
I doubt it's ram.
I don't they'd ship a CPU that couldn't break 600 mhz. :?
I'm guessing you don't want to/can't swap cpu's from another computer real quickly.
I'd say if you can't get it working it's probably a messed mobo.
I'd mess with it a bit more before I tried to deal with returning since you probably bought it online.
Sure you didn't leave plastic on the processor or something stupid?
Perhaps try reseeding HSF although you haven't gotten any heat issues so I still say mobo.

yeah I been messin wit mobo, all kinds of shit... changed voltages, clock settings, HT n all that... no improvement

gunna RMA mobo; wish I could test another CPU, but I only have 939 CPUs...

I know but i can only think it would be so low because of temps. I know he said the temps are ok but they would be if my cpu was running at 575mhz!

Make sure:
FSB is 200mhz
RAM is 400mhz
HTT is 1000mhz or 5x

Hopefully you can get it sorted.
