i dont have enough money for a corsair 620w. but I do have enough for a corsair 520W. but then i saw the zalman 600w. there both modular psu.

the problem is im not sure if it can support the graphic card im getting soon. yet theres overclocking, adding hd, airflow, maybe upgrading to a better graphic card (8800gtx) etc on the side.

so which one should i get? theres a special for the corsair only for 120$ yet the zalman is 140 a bit more than the corsair. price is not a issue, i just need more power.

i already ordered a 8800gts 320mb superclocked from evga. maybe in the future i might add a x-fi music, couple of harddrivers there.

i currently got a thermaltake tr2 550w.

All of them would do fine, but I'd go for the Corsair 620W personally.

Hmm, I'd say this psu, it can power more than a gtx

tons of amperes on the 12v rail, and if you ever manage to get the money, the 750w version (that peaks at 850w) has a mind boggling 60a on the 12v rails

like i said. i dont have enough money really. but if i had i woulda go with the corsair 620w hands down.

but then now i thought about it. i proberly in the future i'll purchase another 8800gts 320mb

The corsair is nice, but for your money, there are better psu's on the market, I'd go for this one

or this

both are nice

mm just a last question. would the 520w corsair be able to handle 2 8800gts? cuz i proberly be ending up sliing them in the future. yet, i dont want to spend more money on another psu when the time comes.

I think the enermax is kinda pushing the budet, and I'd recommend the pc p&c over all of them if price wasn't an issue, but if you say the ocz has problems (though I've heard great things on their psu's), then it's fine by me, you know you psu's far better than me

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

yikes. i guess i shouldnt be buying another psu then. i guess i should stick to my current PSU.

anyways thanks a bunch

Reply to crossfire

so how much is needed for one 8800gts 320mb?

Reply to crossfire

I like the 750w pc p&c quad, 60a combined rails, designed for dual gtx's

And I don't think the ocz will be all that stressed on a single gts, but a gtx or two will definitely stress it out

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

an oc'd gtx in sli on only 56a? I think that's pushing it, but it's not really a senario we are currently dealing with anyways

I'd listen to mpilchfamily crossfire, he definitely knows his psus

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

I didn't know there where any psus with the 8 pins currently, thanks for the headsup, but I don't understand why the r600 requires that much power when ati is taking forever to perfect it, and needs to keep power consumption down to please the public

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

lol guess what my current only has 29A on +12v. i am amazed. now i should really replace it. lol

Reply to crossfire

you could get away with that on a single gts, but I wouldn't push it much, anyways, I think you should go for the enermax if it fits the budget, or the ocz I mentioned if the enermax doesn't fit the budget, but if you want to sli later on, you'll need a more expensive psu

i see why im having these post problems nad that... thanks for the help. im proberly getting the corsair 520w. its on special and its only 120$CND.

Reply to crossfire

for a stock gts, I think 29amperes would barely suffice, but it would work

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

does it matter how mcuh watts? or is it the amps? cuz i compared with the zalman, there pretty equipvant. but the zalman has more watts.

Reply to crossfire

primarily the amps for a basic setup with a powerful card, but when you add many drives and such, and a power sucking cpu such as the old netbursts, then watts matter, but I think anything over 550w should do for a single gts

Reply to I_Love_Tacos

so i bet better off buying a 600w instead of a 520w?

Reply to crossfire

yes, but it's not just about the watttage, also the efficiency too, which is why I recommened those pricy psus

Well, glad I stumbled on this thread - it partially answers some of my questions. I'm also on a limited budget.

I can get OCZ GameXstream 600W on special for CAD 98. But its sounds like it's a bit dodgy?

I am doing a new build, would perhaps like to overclock my E4300 (on air, never done overclocking before) and eventually upgrade to a single 8800 GTX (way in the future ;)).

Would the OCZ handle all of that? Or would it "ripple" (no idea what that means either :))

Reply to african_leopard

I think it should, ask mpilchfamily on that, but for only 98cad, I think you should go for it just because of how good of a deal it is
