CPU- AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+ AM2 Dual-Core-----------------$200
RAM- 2GB A-Data 800mhz DDR2 4-4-4-12 ---------------------$160
Motherboard- ASUS socket AM2 NF4-----------------------------$80
Hard Drive 1- Western Digital 37GB 10k Raptor----------------$105
Hard Drive 2- Western Digital 320GB SATA 7.2k---------------$80
Graphics card- XFX nVidia GeForce 7900GS--------------------$180
CD-DVD Drive- Lite-On CD-DVD Burner Disk Drive-----------$30
Case- ATX Mid Tower Case---------------------------------------$40
Power Supply- CoolMax 500watt power Supply-----------------$50

the total adds up to: $925

Please if you think it needs more RAM or anything tell me. I am trying to keep the costs under $1,000 So maybe if I should downgrade something and upgrade something else.

Also I was wondering if getting a Creative Sound-Blaster X-Fi is worth it or not. Its $60 on newegg.

i also was wondering if maybe I should not get the WD raptor and instead pick up another gig of RAM

2GB should do you fine, but if you're going to Vista definitely get the extra RAM. It makes a difference. The XFi is worth it. It'll be a good system.

first off the 5400+ is $280 at tiger and new egg? so where are u getting it for $200? you could get a 4200+ for less then $200 then upgrade the psu - that psu will fail

this is for gaming only - go with a e4400 or e4300 put the savings into the graphics card - mobo use a p4n-sli its $70 open box at new egg (i lov open box buys 1 out of 1o you send back to the factory)

get a pioneer - its better burner highly rated same price

DO NOT GET A COOL MAX PSU - total junk - i had to pull more of these - i used these in 2005 - they run hot and over heat - the fan turns too slow - bad stuff. $50 there is fultron i think?

better put the cpu savings into a silversstone strider 600 or the zeus 560 or even an antec is good choice neo 550 is high amps

Oh yeah, damn I forgot When I was writing this I just put $200 as a place holder cause I didnt know the exact price. well with that extra added in the total will be about $1,000 without the sound card. I am sort of thinking about ditching that Raptor. Should I? I mean the other 3.0gB/s WD will handle pretty good. then add in the sound card in and get a better PSU
