I leave for a week-long holiday and I still get third place?

Chriz, stop these stats. They make me question my life.

Chriz, you are not to stop the stats; they are wonderous. After all, isn't
it a wonder that Steffan left for a week and is still third? ;p

Stats aren't wonderous. You can pretty much work them out in your head.
It's not like AGNP's the most traffic-heavy group in the world.

Although now that I check, it seems we've arrived at some parallell
universe, since the elusive Beth was the second most prolific poster.

And I was first?!?!?!?!?! Sorry, I didn't really look, 'cause I had
computer trouble and wasn't here for ages (so it seemed to me anyway). Wow,
from 10th place up to First. ;)

Wow,

Dude, they mean nothing. We've already spent far too long talking about
them considering their worth. I mean, I do skim the top poster section, but
stuff like bandwidth use? Most popular organisations? And what's this hog
factor thing?

Stats in general are a celebration of menial number crunching. Anyone
looking at them and thinking "oh, I must post more next week to boost my
numbers" should be shot on sight.

I still think the stats are cool even though they're technically
meaningless. :D Hog factor is probably based on the size of people's posts,
so the PW people would get a high factor on that.

And anyway, posting this adds to my post total for next week.

Well, yes, that's exactly why stats here are useless. In a standard
high-traffic group, maybe they'd be useful, but thing is, factors regarding
AGNP - such as PW! and the nature of non-PW! threads - make the stats a bit
iffy, and generally pointless. For instance, I could post exactly one
message a day for the rest of my life, and my position in the Top Posters
could change dramatically over time. I could be first one week and third
the next even if I post MORE in the second week. This is what makes stats a
pointless waste of space.

> And anyway, posting this adds to my post total for next week.

Yeah, and by posting THIS, I'm pushing up this thread in the Most Popular

I'm pretty sure I always mention when this ugly topic is raised that
Magneton is generally my Electric of choice when playing the game through,
yet I always end up getting lectures from you until you get bored of trying
to raise me from the "think it looks kinda cool" group to the "thinks it's
oooober" group.

That puny little thing? Boy, did you ever miss out. Way back when the
world was new there were sig files that were more than 250 lines. And
bigger.

Yeah, Haights's and Gonk's sigs are still online, and they're both over
300Kb, I believe.

However, neither of these were used regularly as real sigs. µ still holds
the record for longest sig that was actually used, but Mike isn't too far
behind.

Only because of the spaces that make his readable. They used to stick in
whole chats.

But I do miss them. Maybe I will go look up the sigs.

Filthy cheaters, those who stick in uneditted quotes. I have to vouch for
Haights here in that he doesn't include reduntant stuff in his quotes just
to boost size.

Generally, I don't mind long chat logs - they can be fun - but I would
prefer it if the quoter would break them up into managable bits. I believe
Haights does this by adding an empty line after a quote he considers
particularly funny or thought-provoking. It's like a pause for thought
moment, and it's a good habit to get into.

Gonk, in contrast, didn't really bother with any of these means of neatening
sigs and making them more readable. He used his sig as a weapon, and didn't
much care for the entertainment it provided, it seems.

> But I do miss them. Maybe I will go look up the sigs.

I believe both Gonk's and Haights's sigs are online as .txt files, but I
can't find them with Google right now.

You could probably stand to remove that point list. They don't seem to
