Getting online via TW-Cable modem - HELP!

From a command prompt;
ipconfig /all
and compare that with what your ISP thinks you should have. Be sure to apply
these before connecting to any network including the internet.

my service mapped to my W95 PC's Ethernet card address or what? Or
perhaps it's mapped to W95 PC's network name (although this seems less
likely).

Any help you can proved will be most appreciated.

P.S. I considered posting this to the network m.p.w2k.network newsgroup,
but after scanning the threads there, it seems like my question revolves
around more of a setup issue than a real bonafide networking issue.

I've heard about worms and viruses that can invade W2k (any maybe XP)
sytems that don't have these patches applied. But realistically, do you
think I'd be safe without them, long enough to allow me to connect to the
'Net to download them in the first place, so I can then (subsequently)
apply them?

* No, you'll more than likely be infected within minutes of connecting to
the internet.
