My first thread here :D

I'm currently building a computer, I've already decided to go for E6600, HyperX 6400, 4-4-4-12(I got a very good deal on this) and one 8800 GTS.

Can you guys please help me on picking up a decent mobo that supports good OC and price below $200?

Thx

or the newest upgrade the AB9 QuadGT

I am actually about to decide whether to purchase the Abit AB9 pro or the AB9 QuadGT. If I want only a single video card and a non quad-core cpu is it still worth getting the quadgt? Would it be faster in any way?

I only know of the basic features of a motherboard such as pci/pcie slots, memory slots, raid, cpu socket, sata connections memory speeds and fsb speeds.. I don't care for onboard sound or video. I honestly don't know what p965 is other than the fact that I should be using it with the e6600 that I will be ordering.

The QuadGT is easier to overclock to higher fsb than the AB9 Pro & it has what most people would consider a better/more normal layout.
Given the 9x multi of the E6600 either should hit an acceptable level of overclock on air (assuming that you also have good cooling, a good PSU etc.).

Get a Gigabyte 965 DS3. Fast, stable cheap. Reliable. My rig is the same as yours, except for OCZ Gold ram.

Thank you buff, I'm going to go ahead and get the QuadGT then. I pray that there are options to change the multiplier in the bios as there are in the ab9 Pro. Maybe RJ will see this thread again and tell me what he thinks as well  :trophy:

You can't change the multiplier on an e6600. It's locked. You have to move up to the c2d extreme to get one unlocked.

You can't go up but you can drop it.

True. Just goes to show you how little I've learned along the way (which is odd, considering I've been in this since the 8088A was a speed demon).

And none of you were ever newbies and asked a question in the wrong place. Okay.
