Im running a pentium 3.2g proc. 2g ram on an abit SG-95 mobo. At the moment ive got an ati radeon x1300. But am not able to run most newer games at anything but the lowest settings. So what is the best video card I can get for $150.00?
1950pro, about $160. 1950gt if you cant afford the extra $10. Although ive only seen the 1950gt on newegg.
What kind of psu do you have?
I belive it is either 400w or 450w this should be enough for this card...no? I was thinking a 512mb card but will 256mb be just as good? Any idea where i can get one for around 160.00? I cant find one for cheaper then 200.00.
It depends on the brand of psu, the total watts dont matter much, its hte amps on the +12v rail. Video memory doesnt matter much, the difference between 256mb and 512mb is pretty much unnoticeable. Both Newegg and Zipzoomfly have 1950pros for $169.
My power supply is a thermal take. How much power should I have on the twelve volt rail to be able to use this card?
Should I just wait for dx10 cards to come down?
If its a thermaltake TR2 430w then you need to upgrade. I have an x1950 pro with that psu and I need to upgrade coz games like oblivion cause restarts and crashes.

This is the quote from a review on a similar card:

suggest you use a 420 Watt PSU minimum, but better is always recommended especially if you keep SLI or Crossfire in mind as a future upgrade. When you buy a new PSU then look at the packaging and check the 12 volts rail for the amperage, 20 AMPS should be fine for a single card, 30 for Crossfire (in this segment). With the X1950 Pro in Crossfire I'd recommend a 520 Watts PSU though.
If you need a PSU upgrade to get this card, it may be best to wait for the NVIDIA 8600 cards to come out.
The PICs I have seen show that it lacks an external power connector which indicates that it gets all of its power from the PCI-E slot and hence you will not need a new PSU.
Also, some versions of these cards should be in your price range.
I had an idea yesturday that might be worthy though. Suspend all the parts of a computer from my ceiling with fishing line or something. Or maybe a pc embedded into one wall next to my shower, with the monitor in the wall front of me. That way while im standing in the shower in the morning i can read THG, order stuff off newegg, play some halo, synce my ipod, video tape myself taking a shower then watch it late at night when everybody if asleep...Wait, what?
Um....Anyway....
I could do something usefull with those 5 minutes instead of just stand there.
I could hollow out a book the stick a pc in it. The thing would have to be small, like a nano atx board, so it couldnt be that powerful, but still. Your carrying around a bunch of book, then all of a sudden you whip one out, plug it into a monitor, and start fragging on Doom. Even a Via C3 or C7 could handle doom.
