I am going to get my first LCD and would like advice.
I want at least 17", SPEAKERS, DVI, good responce time ...so no ghosting, for under $250. Not sure what else I "WANT" as I know nothing about the LCD screen types. Feel free to educate me.

EDIT: I know ALL monitor speakers are crappy. I just need basic sound so if the wife is soo inclined she doesnt have to mess w/ my headphones. Anyways the married guys here will understand....hehe

EDIT: what are the advantages of widescreen?
So far this is the only one I found that meet my criteria:

BTW how big is the "actual" view size of 17" and 19" non-widescreen LCD's?

seems to fit. I was going to shy away from widescreen because games get streched to fit and they are an odd resolution.

I bet!!

I am leaning toward the ASUS LCD for two reasons. It has 2x2.5 watt speakers vs 2x1watt. And the control buttons are on the side which should deter my kids from pushing them whenever they are in the den and Im computing/gaming.

A beautiful option (I owned the previous model). The speakers are crap, but they work in a pinch.

Completely understand the point about clutter. I'm using two 19" CRT at the moment and they take up a healthy amount of space on my desk. Thankfully I have one of those old metal school teacher desk so it's friggin huge. I too am upgrading my computer as well. Actually ordered just waiting for everything to get here. Some of the stuff is arriving tomorrow some of it won't be here till Monday. /cry Man I hate waiting. I'm going to be dumping the CRT's and picking up two 24" gateway monitors that I saw at Bestbuy they are awesome. Goodluck finding a monitor keep us posted.

Get the "wide-screen" version, it's way much better than the traditional square version. Always go for bigger size, the 19" is the same price as the 17". I don't think one can tell the difference between a 5ms vs. a 2ms response time. Here are my recommendation: wink:

1st choice:

2nd choice:
