I'm gettin one...I'll let u guys know how it performs.
I am getting some ram sinks with it, is arctic silver 5 ok to use with these, or should I get some ceramique?
Im curious, how hot is your card running now? i have 2 gts cards in sli and one card is at 45-48 and the other is 65 at idle, they only get a little hotter while gaming. what is really normal for these?
Yes that HS has been out for some time now. Particularly I need something that improves my actual temps a lot to switch (I'm @ 49 - low 60's). For now, I'm happy with my temps.
Please share your results when you get it...

When I get home tonight I'll get temps with stock cooler, then next week sometime I'll post temps with new cooler.

O'rly! I thought it just came out this week
my bad.
I got my 8800GTX today and I'm VERY satisifed so far. I'm able to play F.E.A.R. at 1680x1050 with 16xAA 16xAF and vertical sync enabled while maintaining a near constant 60FPS.
I got mine yesterday, and ditto, it's FAST. My only problem is the latest driver release for vista doesn't support 1920x1080 so I am stuck at 1330x768
. But I can't complain too loud, I knew what I was getting into with vista /shrug.
Hay I have a BGF 8800gts and its damn quiet, even after hours of gaming.
hows that thing supposed to cool your memory?
I think the factory cooler is just fine and it dumps the hot air out of your PC unlike this thing
Correct. So unless you have very good airflow, now all that hot air builds up inside the case.

Yeah I got separate ram coolers

Thats why I was aking about ceramique above. I am afraid that as5 wont hold the ram sinks in place ?? does anyone know if it will be sufficient?
Also my case has a 120mm fan exhausting air out of my case right next to the video card.

My card @ 621 mhz is @ 61 - 62 idle and 69 - 70 load with the stock cooler.
More info next week. 8)

See dude your CPU is fine
I'm too mutch of a klutz to even mess around with aftermarket VGA cooling. It's a miracle my machine is running at all, let alone as well as it is. (knocks wood)Looks cool though.

This cooler just came out. You are talking about the HR-03 which has been out for some time. It does not support the 8800. The HR-03 Plus supports 8800.
Quote : I am getting some ram sinks with it, is arctic silver 5 ok to use with these, or should I get some ceramique?
I think the Hr-03 comes with heatsinks for the ram already.
If you go to thermalright.com and look at the installation instructions, it shows heatsinks.
And from the FAQ
Answer2:
The 8800 series video cards have 12 DDR3 memory chips and HR-03 Plus has all of them covered as well as for the HSI chip and the PWNIC in that each one has its own RAMsink for sufficient cooling

well....looks like my brother is getting some free ram sinks
The new cooler is in and installed, and I did see some remarkable drops in temperature.
I also took quite a few pics with my phone, but when I reviewed them later I decided not to post them because of the incredibly low quality.
temps before the cooler:
61 - 62 idle 69 - 70 load
temps after cooler:
52 - 53 idle 59 - 60 load
now my load temps are cooler than my old idle temps
To sum up the process, this was by far the most complicated after - market vga cooler I have ever installed. I was not very impressed with the state of the thermal pads used on the stock cooler, as some of them seemed to not even be in contact with the stock heatsink. I think you would probably see improved temps if you simply replaced the thermal pads with some as5 on the stock cooler.
I am going to install xp on another partition next weekend and see how far I can push my card with the new cooler, I'll update you guys then.
(i would see how far I can push it in vista if the driver support was just a TOUCH more functional :x )
Edit: all temps were taken @ 621 mhz core - 1000mhz mem
This is with or w/o fan attached?
Why not just stick the largest CPU cooler on the gfx card's processor?
That's with a 92mm vantec stealth attached. 8) When I get home I'll take some more crappy pics and post them so you can check it out in all it's low-res glory.
Cant you draw a image instead?

Not a bad drop in temps. I'm actually thinking of getting one of these kits myself. I just havent' decided if I will do it or just wait and water cool it. I wonder what kind of temps you'd get with FM92's instead of that stealth fan?
Those bastards are hard to find.

Here's the card and heatsink separate, you can see that the thermal pads on the ram did not leave any residue on the heatsink, which makes me wonder how much contact was taking place to begin with.

There's the thing fully installed, as you can see it's enormous. A real mammoth cooler. 8O
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums [...] 7_1752.jpg
Here it is in my case, i shot it at this angle so you can see how far it sticks out past my card.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums [...] 7_2152.jpg
This last one is another in the case from the side this time showing how tall the thing is.(I hope you didn't want to SLI)
Thanks Pete, those are really some crappy pictures
. Too bad the PCI card is so close to the fan, because it cuts the airflow a little bit.
Good job tho. Thinking on pushing the card a little more?
Quote : Thanks Pete, those are really some crappy pictures
Yeah the pci->usb card covers a little less than 1/4 of the fan, but it doesn't cut the airflow all that much, since there is still a good 1/2 an inch of space between the two. It's hard to tell from the pics, but the fan sticks out quite a bit from the other cards, and the pci->usb card is quite short as well.

one more crappy pic showing what I'm talking about.
Yes, this weekend I am planning on seeing how much more of an OC I can squeeze out of it.

In fact right now this VGA cooler is only for the 8800GTX, not the 8800 series.
See this note from Thermalright, the HR03+ manufacturer:

With the wrong information on that online store... lots of 8800GTS owners will end up ordering it not knowing they won't be able to use it

Where did you connect the fan (does the 8800 have a fan connector? If so what type? if not did you connect it to the mobo or the PSU?
bump on the question:

Also, new question: Does the fan blow toards the video card or away from it
Thanks

His 92mm fan has a 3pin connector. So it is probably connected to the mb.

The 92mm fan blows into the heatsink.

Too bad I cant do this with my SLI'd 8800GTX's!
If the fan connects into the motherboard, then it won't spin faster when the card gets hotter... doesn't that seem a problem?
Is there a way to make the 8800 control the fan?
Same here. Not enough room to put those two sucker on with two 92mm fans... only if one is air cooler and other passive cooled .
Some motherboard have the option to adjust the fan speed. You can always get a fan controller.
Quote : Some motherboard have the option to adjust the fan speed. You can always get a fan controller.
Yeah but neither the fan controller or the motherboard will know the GPU temp.
If you put the fan at low (fine for everyday windows) and then you forget to set it back to med or high while playing a heavy game, wouldn't you risk to fry the GPU?
With a 92mm fan it will be definetly fine dont worry.
This is with a 92mm fan at 1500rpm and 2500rpm. Check the graphs.

Sorry for the lack of reply, I've been out of town for a couple of days. Sarsoft is correct however, it is a 3-pin connector that I plugged into my fan controller. I haven't had a great deal of time to monkey with the settings, right now I just leave it cranked to max and it's still pretty quiet.
On a scale of 1 to 10 how difficult was it to install the cooler? I'm seriously thinking of picking one of these up. I just don't have any experience with aftermarket coolers. Well, not yet anyways my Tuniq 120 is on the way as we speak so that will give me some experience but not for VGA.

I would give it a 4. It was difficult to install when compared to some other vga coolers like my old zalman, but overall it is still a small, relatively easy project. It comes with very clear instructions, even detailing 2 different configurations to set it up in. I think really the only thing that was a bit intimidating is removing the stock HSF, since it is huge and has around 15 small screws you must take out. Also cleaning the various thermal paste/pads off was a bit more work than usual because the chip is HUGE and there are more ram chips than I am used to.

What kind of screws did it have in it? That's the part I'm nervous most about as well. Something about removing the HSF on it is scary. But I think I'm going to pick it up. May I PM you if I run into any problems.
Just small, phillips head screws. If you have a small screwdriver they shouldn't be a problem.
I am always glad to help, send a message if there's anything i can do

Thanks man. Yeah I have one of those small yellow set of screwdrivers with the tiny ones in them. :-P That's cool. One other question I was looking at the manual it looks like there's two setups what is the difference?
Just the position of the heatsink, I suspect performance is similar. Heck if you are reading the manual it probably has more info than I do
Just check out the pictures, in one configuration the heatsink is on top of the card, in the other its on the bottom. I liked it on top, that way the fan would blow air onto my ramsinks as well.

Yes they do, just make sure your monitor is like HD instead of regular LCD. It should auto detect but if it doesn't you will have to pick it.

Hmm, thanks for the tip, I'll check it out when I get home. Right now I am using the vga input on my tv, perhaps i should try DVI->HDMI converter?
