Bought a Nokia 21" computer monitor at a garage sale for 60 bucks.
Bought RCA DTC100 HDTV receiver off eBay for 115 plus 20 in shipping.
Silver Sensor antenna for 40 bucks.
Duct taped the Silver Sensor to the chimney, pointed it at Chicago and
got 60-75% on everything but CBS (VHF) and I'm 52 miles out!
Watched Smallville rerun last night and OMG! So for less than 250
bucks I'm watching HDTV. Would I rather have a nice setup like many
of you? You bet, but until my financial fortunes change I'm loving
the Hell out of this.
It looks good then Smallville comes on and the screen changes to
letterbox and the sound roars with a depth and fullness that can't be
appreciated until you hear it.
If you're a Smallville addict, like me, and you have the money go buy
HDTV now! If you're a broke ass guy like me, this is not so bad :-)
Can't wait until the 22nd for Smallville season to start.

Took me a second to get it Gordo, but pretty damn funny Hehehehehe.
It was very windy here yesterday and the damn thing hasn't moved an
inch. Kind of surprised myself.
BTW My Cubbies are broadcasting the game from Wrigley field tonight
in HD on WGN channel 9. This will be my first look at the Cubs in HD.
I've got my beer and sunflower seeds and I'm very excited.

You're lucky...many SVGA CRT monitors can't display in the correct
aspect ratio. At my workplace, our Viewsonic P225's can't shrink
the vertical size enough to get a true 16:9 display. (Yet strangely,
our aging Viewsonic P810 and P815s do it with no sweat!)
So it depends on your luck.

Unless you can afford a >$2000 display, your 21" PC CRT is probably
giving you a better picture anyway. The usual direct-view "HD" CRTs
resolve a pathetic 800-900 lines, somewhat below a quality PC-monitor.
Except for the Sony XBR910/960 and XS955, most direct-views are barely
1024x768 and sometimes closer to 800x600 (in terms of resolvable
detail...obviously the CRT is scanning at 1080i.)
