I've got a 19" 1280x1024 monitor. I've read many places that the 320 MB 8800 GTS is great for my resolution. However, I play mostly Real Time Strategies and it seems that they are very demanding of power when the screen can often time be filled w/ hundreds or even 1000's of units.

Was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is any advantage for me to get the 640 MB card vs the 320? Will I notice a difference in performance (is it worth it?)

Thanks!

now rts really arrent as taxing on a system compared to an fps, and having that decrease in memory rly wont affect games for the next 2 years anyway, when ull prolly upgrade again

Medieval 2 can put a big load on a PC and get choppy, even on a x1950XT.
Games like Empire Earth I/II can run well on almost anything.

Thanks for the replies

Sirheck... You say if I can afford it, go for it? Reason being..... is the quality of the perfomance of 640MB card that much better? Or, should I 'go for it' so that I'll have a more memory on my card for future games?

you will want more memory for future games.
and if you go with a higher resolution monitor later on.

read the link. they talk some about the lower memory.

not that the 320mb is bad but (imo) for about 100 bucks or a little
less the 640mb version is worth it.

AFAIK DX10 supports "Intsancing". This basically means that if you have 1000 of the same unit on the screen it will be significantly faster because they all use the same model.

This is likely to mean that RTSs will exert significantly less load on the GPU in the future.

Food for thought.
