hey fellas. newbie OCer here. i am not sure if this question has been raised before, if so, then i apologize.
i switched from asus amd mobo so i am new to asus intel mobo and not familiar with the bios as much. specially the OCing parts of it.
after reading some of the posts on here i figured out how to change fsb, multiplier and vcore. but i can't figure out how to change cp<->NB HT speeds.
in my amd mobo, i could drop it down from 5x to 4x to compensate for the increased fsb. but with the p5b, i am not sure how to do it. i see under chipset, 2 options. one for southbridge and the other for northbridge. but in it, there are some wierd options that i have never seen before.
at stock my HT is set at 1066 MHz. if i OC then it will increase too. so how do i keep it from going higher than it is rite now? cuz i OCed my cpu from 2.4 to 3.0 (fsb from 266x9 to 333x9) and it increased the HT from 1066 to 1333.
thanks in advance.
BTW, make sure you check the link width of your PCIe x16 while you're in CPU-Z under OC conditions. There is a known bug on the P5B's where the link width goes to 1X under OC instead of 16X thereby reducing performance. I believe it's under the MAINBOARD tab of CPU-Z where you can check this.
ty for your post. i checked with cpuz. it does say x16 in link width.
3.6 was a bit unstable. but 3.4ghz seems to b smooth so thats what i'll keep.
the thing is my vcore seem a bit low. wouldnt u say?
i couldn't find the right amount of vcore so i got fed up and went iwth "auto" so now it shows 1.213 in cpuz... and other utilities. not sure if thats good or bad. i ran a few test only for a couple of hours. it checks out.
How many more problems does the p5b del have (this link deal and the audio problem)... suggestions on a better board for o/c'ing or work arounds for these issues?
