I've got a couple computers and a server with no virus scan on them.
Can I but just one copy of like McAafee Active VirusScan SMB Edition
and run the virus scan on all of the computers and the server, or must
I buy a copy for each desktop? Do I install it on the server just
like a desktop workstation? Thanks

Generally, workstation AV products aren't meant to run on servers. I also
recommend avoiding McAfee. Check out www.trendmicro.com - perhaps the
client/server suite will meet your needs. It's good, and pretty dang
affordable. If you also have Exchange server, try client/server/messaging
suite -
