Went on vacation and came back to a TV that is looking horrible. Wife says
she has no idea what happened and that it happened suddenly. She was not
watching it when it went bad but it was probably on. When I checked it out I
found the convergence adjustment out on the vertical but adjusting it back
did not do much. I basically have a ghost image on most everything. It's
especially bad on lettering on the screen. I even see the ghost image when
trying to do the convergence adjust. When I have it properly aligned there
are still ghost images. They seem worse on the horizontal bar.
I tried checking the input connections and they seem fine. I put in a DVD to
make sure that it was not my satellite signal and the picture still looks
bad. Other than that I'm not sure what to do. I also noticed that on the
lower left side of the screen the color is really out of whack. It looks
like maybe there is a magnet on the outside of the T.V. there but I made
sure that the DVD and receiver were far enough away that it would not cause
any problems. They are in the same place they have been anyway.
I would really appreciate some help here. If it's not something I can fix
myself then if I could get a recommendation for a good service center in the
Beaverton Oregon area that would be great.
There is Hitachi Forum and you can search on 43FDX and over at
http://www.hometheaterspot.com I have read a couple of the posts on the
43FDX (I have on in the basement) that spoke of a problem with the I/C
Solder Joint ... You can seach both forums for your model or the problem
(usually around broken convergence).

Most likely the STK convergence output devices have failed. Order original
Hitachi parts since some of the after market devices have had castrophoic
failures causing other damages to the sets. Also check the low value
resistors associated with these devices. . STK392-110.

You have a bad connection to the convergance amps or an amp is bad. They
are STK392-110 IC's. You might also have a resister bad. Probably a (red
red gold) color code. The STK's must be installed with heat sink compound
under them.
