Running out of server storage space. What is purpose of the I386 folder? Can I move it to another drive (non-boot drive). Any negative to doing that? Also if have w2k sp4 all updated what if any of the uninstall hotfixes could safely be removed from Winnt folder? Thanks

Greetings --

The \i386 folder is a copy of the files needed to install the
operating system or a service pack, whose primary purpose is to save
the user the inconvenience of having to insert an OS CD each time
he/she makes changes to the OS, such as adding features. If you're
short of hard drive space, you can safely move or delete the folder.

The installation of SP4 would have removed any superfluous
hotfixes. Any remaining should be left alone. However, if you're
confident that you won't need to uninstall any of the hotfixes, you
can safely delete the compressed folders storing the older versions of
the relevant files. These folders will be located at
"C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB820291$," for example. Once you've deleted
the folders, you can then open the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs
applet and select each of the pertinent removal choices, in turn. You
should get an error message stating that the removal files are
missing, and asking if you'd like to delete the menu option.
