Starting Win 2000 Explorer, system tries to install Earthl..

Hello --

The Earthlink app is on an external drive that died.

Every time I start Windows Explorer, the system tries to install it, and
cannot, of course, find it. It also starts when I
- start IE or
- click Spelling in Outlook Express, as I did in spell-checking this
message.

This confirms to me that there is a connection between Win Explorer and IE
(wasn't this the subject of the recent Microsoft trial?).

Can anyone tell me how to:

1 - configure IE not to try to run the blocker
2 - sever the connection between Win Explorer and IE?
