I have two internet connections, one on ADSL & the other on Ethernet. I'm trying to get a device that has two wan ports, one wan port being ADSL & the other wan port being Ethernet, I can't seem to find one though unfortunatly.......
I was thinking whether I could put the ADSL cable into it, and then on the otherside put Ethernet and thus try and convert ADSL to Ethernet but I have been told this won't work (to be honest I didn't think it would, because ADSL runs on a different protocol..... unless someone thinks I ought to try it.
Alternatively, If I could some how convert Ethernet to ADSL and get a device that has to ADSL WAN ports??
I'm not sure what to do really, but I need a device that can handle both my ADSL & Ethernet web connection, ideally do load balancing between them as well.
If anyone can help me or point me in the right direction that would be great.
You cannot connect the ADSL telephone line to an ethernet switch with merely a connecter adapter. Would that it were true! ADSL modems would be a thing of the past!
I am confused, though, about your situation. What do you mean by saying that one of your internet connections is "ethernet"? Do you mean cable broadband?
weird, a few people tell me they think it is possible, a few say they don't, i think it is to do with the protocols, adsl uses a differnt protocol but u can run adsl over ethernet my ccna friend tells me...
one is coming in from a microdish, (satelite) and it comes into our lan via an ethernet cable, all i need to do my end is give the interface it goes into a static ip.
the other line is adsl, and i would like both connections to go into one device which does load balancing....
So I would have the ADSL come into the ADSL router, then link this router to the load balancing linksys device. I was thinking of turning NAT of on the ADSL router so that it uses classical routing.
My problem is this, I got ISA server, and ISA server only likes one default gateway, I also got two internet links so i don't want an over complicated setup, ideally a device that could handle ADSL and Ethernet wan connections would be my best option i think, rather than having two other devices infront of the ISA Server.
