Hi,

I'm new to overclocking, and was hoping someone can give me some insight about a few things.

Picked up the following stuff:
Intel xbx2
C2D e6600
ocz gold ddr800 (4gig)
vista ultimate 64

I read the OC guide on here over many times to make sure I did thing right, however it doesn't have anything about the xbx2 mobo for ocing. Right now, i'm lost on what the difference is for the different memory frequency settings are in the bios.

leaving it at the default 800mhz, I can't seem to OC at all. But if I lowered it to say 667 or 533, or 400 it seems to be able to OC more the lower I went. for example,

@667mhz mem frequency, I can get the fsb up to 350 X 9 = 3.15
@533mhz mem frequency, I can get the fsb up to 360 X 9 = 3.24
@400 i can get it to 370fsb X 9 = 3.33

I searched around the forums about setting FSB to 400 and mem frequency at 800 so its 1:1 with the ram (ddr800), but when I set it to this setting the system doesn't boot, and I get "Unsuccessful post attempts" message. I've also tried increasing the cpu voltage.

Can someone please explain what the memory frequency is? and why is it that I can seem to get high fsb when overcloking with lower memory frequencies?

and is it better to go for a lower overall overclock (3.15) but with higher memory frequency 667mhz, or go for a higher overclock (3.33) with a lower memory frequency of 400mhz? I'm so lost. :oops:

have u increased your Vcore to 1.45v, lock your pcie-100 and pci-100 try fsb 400mhz. increase your FSB freq 1.50. and Vmch to 1.55 then up your vdimm one notch and put your timing 4-4-4-12. i saw it from other forum. but you should get a nice cooler first and if it does'nt boot up your Vcore one notch and if it still dosnt boots up your Vdimm one notch. if it boots lower your Vcore one notch and keep it lowering till it gets unstable
