Hey anyone who can help me out..its greatly appreciated

Im installing Window 2000 Professional

* Reformated hard drive
* Boot with Floppy (Win 98 Book Disk)
* Choose CD-Rom Support
* Typed cd i386 then winnt.exe and let everything copy
(stayed up all night and waited for all files to copy and
lots of times the cd-rom seemed to stop functioning and
had to click enter so the files would copy...finally they
did)

* OK windows 2000 set up

* Boot from CD (with floppy removed)
* Choose what I had to and to copy files such as
partition FAT etc.

* Now Im upon a screen that states "Set up was unable to
verify drive C. (your computer may not have enough disk
space or your windows 2000 CD may contain some corrupted
files...to continue press enter)

* pressed enter.....creating a list of files to copy then
it comes to a screen where it says that setup can not
copy the file _default.pif to retry press enter etc.
Also says to make sure the CD is inserted etc. I dont
want to skip the file, i would imagine it would mess
something up.

Anyone have any ideas on this issue...Im thinking it may
be the CD Rom drive since i have tried numerous attempts
with various CDs but im not sure.

Thanks in advance
Shaun

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

Have you tried amending boot order in bios to boot from cd, then using win2k
cd to boot from and install?
If this is an upgrade is sys/hardware compatible with win2k?
run the compatibility checker?
