I do that and when it boots from cd again it says that
it "can not open the boot partition to check for a
signature" and starts the whole installation process over.
And if I take the cd out it gives me the boot failure
error.

As a first step I suggest you download and run the disk
diagnostic program that your disk manufacturer makes
available free of charge on his home site.

that is irrelevant because I have tried 3 different hard
drives and get the same error
