I have two computers, and would like to have them both access the internet at the same time. Is this at all possible? Long time ago ( 5 yrs ) i had two computers run off of ISDN. Could someone give me the lowdown of networking 56k?
If you can afford it, the author recommends a dialup modem with router product, which would make your home network "normal" - that is, no internet connection sharing through one computer. Here is a link to the product: Dialup modem with router
It has two network ports on the box so that you can connect the PC's via Cat5e patch cables to their network ports. That way you can independently shut down the PC's without affecting one another (also Internet Connection Sharing in windows has been known to be a complete pain to run successfully).
There is one important issue to take into consideration with this unit; " System requirements: Internet Service Provider that does not require additional software to be installed." In other words if you have to use a special client to dial in (Like AOL) you may be out of luck with this device.
Long ago I did this with with a software package called WinGate. Windows 95/98 were all the rage. It worked when I upgraded to cable to and before the first linksys routers came out. At the time there were other options too, maybe squid?. Try searching for proxy servers.
