Hi all
Have an friend that would like to run some proprietary gear on a current
(WM2003/2003SE) PPC -problem is the interface is PCMCIA (PC) card or USB
only.
Are there any current, readily available (ie likely to be found in
Australia) machines available?
Add-on sleeves (like the IPAQ PC sleeve that used to be around) are
definitely a possibility if anyone can suggest one.
As a second choice, one with a USB Host controller on-board is a
possibility....
He's a software developer so the driver isn't an issue, provided the
hardware can do the job.

The last iPAQ would be the 5555, and that will work with the PCMCIA+ and
dual PCMCIA sleeves. As far as I know the iPAQ line is the only ones that
have a PCMCIA sleeve. And those sleeves will NOT work with a cardbus card,
by the way. The 555X, 545X and 397X all have an upgrade to Windows Mobile
2003. I would recommend the 5555 or 5550.
Then the Asus MyPal a730w and the Toshiba e800 would support a USB host
function with Windows Mobile 2003, but they do not support PCMCIA adapters.
Unless you care to use a CF to PCMCIA adapter. Not that the CF to PCMCIA
adapter may be only able to supply limited power, and not work with high
power PCMCIA cards.

For the latter option (as shown above) there is a Compact Flash USB host
that can be added to PPc units with a CF card slot. The price is a bit
much, but for more details check out here:

I have a Jornada 568, and that has a "sled" with bigger battery, into which
a PCMCIA card (or CF card + PCMCIA adaptor) can be used.
