ok i need help guys. i have pentium D 3.00 Ghz, 2 gb 667mhz memory and intel 965wh MB.i am getting PNY Geforce 8800 gts 640 mb or XFX XXX Geforce 8800 gts 320 both are for 330$. but XFX is overclocked by default by factory and i don't want to overclock the PNY graphic card if i get it. my lcd moniter doesn't support more then 1440 x 900. which card would be better. because i want to keep that card for atleast 2 years or more.

i would say get the card with 640 memory. i think you will be more future proof with the extra memory, but thats my opinion. they are pretty close until the resolution and stuff is way up but that is with todays gaming benchmarks.things may change when dx 10 games come out,the extra memory may help out more. another thing to think about is your monitor, what if you upgrade to larger/higher resolution later?

Yea.. I read a side by side comparison of the 320mb OC v 640mb stock (I cant remember where.. try dailytech reviews).

Basically, for the games out today, the 320mb is clearly better value because it performed on a par (and sometimes better) than the 640mb. However, examining the memory usage, most of todays games never got beyond the 320mb.

With the one game that did (again, dont ask.. I was skimming), the 640mb clearly pulled away from the 320mb. The conclusion was that if you have it to spend, spend the extra on the 640mb. More & more games over the next couple of years will be able to use the extra memory.

Resolution is obviously the key to this.. If your under 1600x1056 go with the 320mb. Otherwise, if you can, go for a 640mb. Even better- get an overclocked 640mb. Best of both worlds.

well thanks guys. i didn't go for either one. I found a better deal and bought EVGA 8800 gts 320Mb superclocked. which is same as XFX overclocked card. but i got EVGA for 279$ which is so awsome deal plus EVGA has stepup program for 90 days. so if i feel i need 640 Mb i will get that. thanks again everyone.
