ok i need help guys. i have pentium D 3.00 Ghz, 2 gb 667mhz memory and intel 965wh MB.i am getting PNY Geforce 8800 gts 640 mb or XFX XXX Geforce 8800 gts 320 both are for 330$. but XFX is overclocked by default by factory and i don't want to overclock the PNY graphic card if i get it. my lcd moniter doesn't support more then 1440 x 900. which card would be better. because i want to keep that card for atleast 2 years or more

More about : pny geforce 8800 gts 640 xfx xxx geforce 8800 gts 320

one more thing guys. i have 500 watt PSU. is it enough to run these cards

As long as you keep the resolution 1600 x 1200 or lower the XFX is the better option. Also, the XFX warranty is far superior to PNY and the techincal help more accessible.

I am currently using a Corsair 520 for my eVga 640 GTS without issue. I was using an Antec NeoPower 480 with no problem whatsoever, but switched that PS to another box. If you are using a cheapie third tier PS, regardless of the stated specs, you could have problems.

Depends which games you play? "A la" Rainbow 6 Vegas, high demand for clock speeds, or "A la" Oblivion high demand for both clock&memory amount etc...

The 320xxx actually wins over the 640 in R6 vegas benchmarks. But in future titles to come the 640 will likely dominate more often.

I also wouldnt hesitate to overclock the 640mb versions seeing as many of the overclocked factory cards share its same cooling system. Just dont go over the top. Like 570core/850mem.

Your psu should be fine for both so long as you dont plan to use SLI.

I have the PNY and have had no issues, even overclocked some but it did not make a significant difference in performance.

okay thanks guy's. i think PNY 640mb card is better deal at same price. considering i want to keep at for atleast 2 years and i think games will need more then 320 mb memory pretty soon.

either card will work fine at 14x9 resolution.

At 14x9 the 320 is the better option, you'll hardly notice the difference and to buy the 640 on the "maybe" that future games will see a huge increase with it - when in the future? which games (ie the ones you actually want to play)? etc etc

all the benches show, at 14x9 or lower, 320MB is plenty. Save your money. Besides, with the XFX double lifetime warranty your card will keep its value nicely. Sell it if and when you're no longer satisfied or you move up resolutions, and get a new card then. You will be glad you did it this way, trust me. IMHO, the 96 streams the GTS has won't stand up for long to "future" games at the image quality/resolutions that will make or break the difference between 640MB and 320MB.

Thake that for what it's worth, though :?

Edit: Both at the same price, I'd still get the XFX just for the warranty, but better yet, get the vanilla 320MB version and OC that yourself.

Same price? 640mb.

Future games will thank you, regardless of your native resolution or the 320 being factory overclocked. You can do that yourself.

Oblivion does not show large gains with more video memory. :?

well thanks guys. i didn't go for either one. I found a better deal and bought EVGA 8800 gts 320Mb superclocked. which is same as XFX overclocked card. but i got EVGA for 279$ which is so awsome deal plus EVGA has stepup program for 90 days. so if i feel i need 640 Mb i will get that. thanks again everyone.
