Depends what you want to do.... Gigabyte is a great motherboard to overclock and the striker is not as good but offers sli and there is a significant price difference.
The Striker is a lot more expensive. You need to see if you need firewire and extra stuff like that, but the striker looks so much cooler . You can also look at the cheaper ASUS P5N32-E SLI.
Do you like to spend $200 to look cool? Get the striker.
Otherwise, get the DS3, or, if you want SLI, go for the P5N32-e SLI Pus or a 650i based board
Edit: Not that you actually will look cool with a striker, outside of your own head. So that should really read, do you like to spend $200 to think that you may look cool if someone were to look at your motherboard and is as much of a geek..
LOL. Ya, besides the mobo will be hidden inside the case. And if it's not and you have a window, then you should presumably have other bling too, which will vastly overpower the looks of a modest mobo.....UV lights, sleeving, etc, etc
No offense, but you're going the wrong route here........
If you want to get a good overclock, you don't need the Striker and you don't need 680i. Get a motherboard that you like, or has the features you want, and you'll easily find a board that also OC's very well.
Second, if you want really high clocks, then get the 6400 or 6600 for the money because of the higher multiplier and binning. This then leads to my next point......
You don't need the Titanium.....waste of money. If you go with a CPU with a higher multi, then your RAM won't be pushed as hard @ 1:1 when OC'ing. Regardless, there are also much better choices than the Titanium.
Next, what cooling will you be using? No sense in push for these clocks if you don't have great cooling. If you go air, that's fine, but you'll be limited alot sooner.
So....you're a bit off-base. You don't need some $400 mobo or whatever to get a high FSB and OC'ing. Any 965 board will get you there with decent RAM and cooling, and a 6600 CPU.
So, a MUCH CHEAPER option would be:
-Gigabtye 965P-DS3
-Corsair Dominator
-6400 or 6600
-Tuniq Tower HSF
If you wanna blow money, then:
-EVGA 680i
-Team Xtreem RAM (take your pick, they all have Micron D9's chips, so just pick a speed)
-6600
-liquid cooling
Difference between the 2 options? Bragging rights.
and who said striker does not oc well think 3.611MHz 24/7 stable and highest oc at 3.902MHz with a e6600 at 13.422 sec with super pi 1M but not stable to do any benchies. Which was not posible with the p965 chipset.
Go with 650i or p965 chipset and save some $ and spend it on a good ram or video card.
Wow! you beat my system in every single component!
As far as I can tell, I pushed my E6600 to 1333mhz FSB at 1.34v stable with orthos for 8 hours. I couldnt push more because I had to RMA my RAM (GRRR) but once I get it back, I will push it to 3.6Ghz which I already did before with this board.
